Yoli’s Dome is a digital fabrication project inspired by my cat, Yoli. The goal is to design a cozy spherical nook for him to rest or sleep in. The dome is constructed by assembling triangular panels into a stable geodesic structure, offering both comfort and aesthetics.

Shaping the Cat Dome
In order to complete the construction of this cattery, I experimented in Fusion 360 after finishing the draft. Considering that the components needed to be connected on the two rightmost sides, I added two 'arrows' on each of the two sides of the triangle for better stability of the cat house. Additionally, on the third side, I designed a buckle to connect with other triangles.
Additionally, hoping to make the cattery look cute, I created one piece with hollow cat claw shapes.
Draft
Based on my inspiration, I have drawn a sketch. As shown in the sketch, the overall shape of the cat house is spherical, composed of triangular elements. For the joints, I am thinking of using fasteners to make the cat house more secure.

From Digital Model to Physical Prototype

Production process
After completing the digital design, I moved on to 3D printing the individual components. Due to the number of parts, I used both university and home printers to speed up production. The larger printing plate at home allowed me to print up to 20 pieces at once, greatly improving efficiency.
Seeing the components fit together perfectly after printing was incredibly rewarding, the design transitioned smoothly from concept to reality, just as I had envisioned.
Final project
I'm so happy that my cat, Yoli, loves the cat house I made.
